Analog Device's wavelet video codec

What do I think? The wavelet seems to be is the hottest pre-processing filter I know. Maybe this rev of the Analog Devices/Aware chip will catch on.

Remember: 30 still frames per second makes video. And still frame coding is never going to be more efficient than coding across time. The press release even said "25 minutes of VHS quality video" in 1 GB. MPEG-1 does roughly this 72 minutes in 652 Mbytes.

Bottom line: only small potential threat to devices like DVx is in embedded applications (like settop boxes that convert analog signals to be stored on local hard drives). But not being motion video, but still video, it is really limited to video capture and editing again. Seems Analog Devices is still cursed by their own name.
