Try this:

First, go to Control Panel on your computer. I don't know what kind of computer you have or what version of Windows you're running, but in most cases, if you click the start button in the lower left corner (where you would click to shut it down or restart it), Control Panel is normally listed in the box that opens. Click on it to open it.

Then find and click on the choice to install/remove programs. This will generate a list of all the programs on your computer. It may or may not be in alphabetic order. Find the entry for Avast and click on it once to highlight it. Then at the top of the list there will be a entry that says something like "Remove selected program". Click on it and it should remove the version of Avast you currently have. You'll get messages about 'Are you sure?', etc. Just select 'Yes'. You'll get warnings about leaving your computer unprotected, etc. if those concern you just turn off your modem or router to take the computer offline. When Avast has been removed, it may require you to restart. In that case put your computer back online by turning the modem or router back on.

Then go to this link:
avg.com

and click on the "Download free antivirus" link at or near the bottom center of the page. This will download and install the free version of Avast. Be forewarned, they will send you lots of messages, pop ups, etc about how much better you can be protected by upgrading to one of the paid versions. Just ignore and close them.

You may have to go into the AVG settings to make sure it starts up when you turn on your computer. Also set the option to auto update... that ensures your virus tables stay current without you having to do it manually.

As for you, E!, download Chrome from Google and get rid of Firefox and you won't have trouble with any version of AVG and you'll have a much superior browser to play with. Chrome will automatically import your bookmarks from Firefox. Make Chrome your default browser and you can leave Firefox on your computer in case you are feeling nostalgic and want to use it. IE will still be there too if you get really desperate.

If you have questions, let me know. Good luck. And BTW, I use AVG on my laptop, one of their paid versions, but I use Trend Micro Internet Security on my desktop computers. If you have a smartphone, other than an iPhone, the paid version of AVG gives you a free mobile app version to protect your phone. Neither of these systems will work on an Apple product, I.e. an iPad, Mac, etc. Apple thinks they're invincible... and they pretty much are.
