.......well.....I'm all signed up now with my new Health Care Provider.......no thanks to NY state. My provider...Health Republic Insurance of NY contacted me and indicated they finally received my newyork.healthrepublic.us application from the New York State site. I got and paid my first (Jan) months bill and should be getting my insurance card shortly. Several observations. Health Republic had BY FAR the least expensive PLATINUM plans offered on the NY exchange. When I questioned this, they told me they were a brand new insurance company and non profit. My take is that they will be flooded with applications by people getting subsidies and that the rate next year will absolutely sky rocket..........reflecting the true cost of the insurance pool. The plan I wound up choosing was the Essential Care PLATINUM Plan. (go to the site for details) It cost $440 a month but with the subsidy I got by limiting my income to about $24K, I pay $200 a month. I have preconditions of gout and arhythmic heart beat. At an income above $46K, I would have got no subsidy. The other PLATINUM plans offered by for profit providers were over $600 a month.I fully expect my premium to go up to near $600 next year when the real extent of the insurance pool becomes known. At that time, I will likely report even lower income to maintain my actual costs at $200 a month......fuck Obama and catch me if you can. P.S. My doctors and hospital are in their network.
