In 2010 there was a record return of sockeye salmon to the Fraser river in BC. Some people explain this by noting there was a volcanic explosion in Alaska which deposited a huge amount of iron into the Northern Pacific which in turn produced a huge plankton amount which in turn fed all the sockeye salmon and led to the massive return.
