This is such a pile of horse manure....why not just claim every great thought anyone has had is the result of some Roman era disciple of Epicurus.

No there's much more than just this, that was only a small part of this unfolding continuum. Probably more influential in changing the Western mindset than several Darwins could ever be, was the 12th century poet / philosopher Petrarch that discovered the writings of Cicero.

He was universally loved & celebrated in every court in Europe and inspired the humanist movement & intellectual flowering of the Renaissance. It was he that ushered in a new era that made immense moral & practical value of the study of classical history & literature, which is the study of human thought and action. His mission that set the imaginations of all Europe on fire & spread the word of "Humanism" from out of dark ages another concept he developed, leading to changes in education that were never to be reversed.

Petrarch, Francesco Petrarca... Father of Humanism.
