My suggestions for the contest, with the caveat always being that whatever is the easiest for you, since you have to undertake all the heavy lifting and umpiring by calling the balls and strikes:

1) All price entries should be the closing price on 12/31/13

2) Should a contest entry be bought out, the holder should be given the right to hold proceeds in cash for the duration of the contest, opposed to it being allocated over the balance of their holdings. Assuming the buyout is for a nice premium, one should be allowed to lock in that profit.

3) IMO there are those who wait before placing their entries until the last minute, hoping to glean some good picks from the true gurus on this board. So that all entries are based on self-evaluation, have everyone submit their entries (with set deadline) to you in a PM. The board is well enough known at this time, and I doubt if there are those that will wish to wait until after the contest has started before making their entry, if there is no advantage to waiting. If memory serves me right, over the last few years we’ve had events happening the first week of January that ‘could’ have major impact on various stocks.
