| | | People with empty minds seek to fill it with something. Christianity was a convenient belief for Brum and Blash due to their upbringing. It gives a purpose and meaning and thus does what they cannot do for themselves: think about life and formulate values based on their thinking. It is quite beyond their ability (or their need) to evaluate their Christianity or to assess or justify their beliefs. It is unnecessary for such people and would only cause them a burdensome anxiety.
Like that silly fellow who jumped over here gushing about the "awesome shroud" and how it magically argued for the Truth of Genesis--and the falsity of Evolutionary Science, paleontology, history, etc.! All he needed to do was to believe in the shroud...and that naked belief was sufficient to convince him of the truth or falsity of everything else without needing to actually assess anything at all. Thus, if the shroud is truly the "awesome shroud", then fossils are all a fraud and carbon dating is a fraud and Natural Selection is a fraud, etc.
A lot of people truly cannot think--strange as that sounds. So they find something convenient or comforting to believe in and that becomes their source of values. Ironically, the same guy they call an idiot for pointing out the superstitious nature of something they believe in, is also the guy they trust implicitly to solve their problems in the real world! For example, people who believe in the demon theory of medicine tend not to be very good at inventing drugs to cure ailments! People who break ribs much prefer Oxycodone to prayer--even though prayer is what a true believer would use. The bible (which Brum and Blash have clearly never read) makes it clear.
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
Will either Brum or Blash handle a snake or drink Strychnine? No. Because they are both frauds. If they have a sick child, do they place their hands on him or her? Or do they take the child to see a doctor who has trained hands and a brain? Neither of them believe in the words of Jesus. Therefore, they deny Him 24 hours a day. Frauds.
This retarded fellow might be a true Christian!
