Welcome to the Research Frontiers, Inc. (REFR) Long Term Investment Thread.
Background
This thread is for the long-term REFR investor who owns the stock because of the business model that affords us a share of royalties issued as dividends.. The CEO calls the business model a "royalty-collecting, dividend paying cash machine." You can read a recent interview from Seeking Alpha, which is in the SUBJECT description of this thread. It will be updated with the most current interviews, conference calls, and investment presentation.
History
Shareholders, such as myself who were early investors, invested in the work of Robert L.Saxe's development of this technology. The history and other information on this can be obtained from the company through their web site

Research Frontiers, Inc. Website,
This is where you will find information on applications, licensees, SEC filings on this site.
Shareholders invested to obtain ownership of REFR''s patented SPD-Smartglass to get the royalties, which our paid by the company's licencees in several markets, once the technology made its way into the commercial markets.
Recent Events
Recently Mercedes Benz, a licensee, used Pilkington's SundymTM film and trademarked this variable tint sunroof "Magic Sky Control" as an option in their SL and SLK models.. Then in August 2013, Mercedes announced the largest panoramic variable roof, with Magic Sky Control TM would be an option on their flagship luxury S-Class. The SPD-Smartglass for this will be supplied by another licensee providing the automaker with a choice in suppliers.
The Benefit of Owning a Technology Even though our licensees compete, Research Frontiers is paid 10-15% of the net sale price no matter which SPD-Smartglass product is used. In the recent interview in Seeking Alpha, which can be accessed in the subject description of this thread, CEO Joseph Harary explains this unique business model and the desire (pending board approval) to become a "royalty-collecting, dividend-paying cash machine." In this unique situation, the company has announced that they do not see expenses going up as their business is the nanotechnology, "Suspended Particle Device" ("SPD") for which they hold over 450 patents and patents pending.
As we see new products from several licensees entering different glass markets, I hope to use this thread to show these products and invite other long-term shareholders to share and discuss these products with one another. New or potential investors are welcome, but this is not a discussion board about the stock price, but about the products. There are other unmoderated threads that do discuss other issues.
Hopefully old and new alike can share the exciting developments in the world of smart glass in general as well as specific SPD-Smartglass products. So welcome. These are exciting times! |
