With all due respect...

I think you are confusing my issue raised.
They did not write direct to 3DFX hardware
to just impress, but because it was the
fastest way to get the software out the door!

The gaming software community is unique in
that it has the fastest development times of
any other software market. The pressure is
enourmous, and maybe 1 out of 10 games ever
produced actually makes any real money.

Of course writing routines direct to hardware
is best, ask any Assembly programmer why...
Of course MicroSoft 3D software standards
will effect 3DFX's dominence. But if you're
gotta get your title on the shelves by Xmas,
or in time for the back to school market,
before your competitor does a similar title
with double your marketing budget, you are
going to use ANYTHING available to do it.
Using the 3DFX platform does the trick!
