Andrew and Allen > The Orb spins much faster than your CD-ROM <

Allen, Orb spinned at 5400rpm which is not faster than high speed real 16x or 20 to 24x CD-ROM today (this is why CD-ROM manufacturers have predicted that 32x (maybe 40x) CD-ROM is probably the fastest they will do because it is not cost-effective to develop a 50x CD-ROM, besides they have to resolve the virbation problem and possibe heat problem too.

Regarding the start/stop time of 12/6 second. I think it is on the par with other 5400rpm HDD. Andrew might never really time his 24x CD-ROM because most typical 12x CD-ROM required 10 to 15sec to startup. Besides, his 24x CD-ROM is much slower to startup than a 1.44MB floppy <g>.
