Well species is a slippery word. Certainly morphologically some of these couplings look trans species. But the point I like is that unlike what I was taught as a child, none of them just died out. We are part of all of them it would appear.

I was exceedingly disappointed when the original mtDNA sequence claimed Neanderthals hadn't interbreed with humans.
