Hello there!

Yes I short, although I mainly follow the trend. I have lost more shorting than going long...until recently though...I have just been biding my time. I covered my short from 90 13/16 at 88.50 and just laid out 1000 at 89.125 on the bounce. Trend is down although the sledding may be tough for the next hour or two. If the big boys come in to defend can get whipsawed...but I don't need to tell you that.

Currently short VRTS (Veritas Software) trading at 50+ times Dec98 eps estimate of 90 cents why can't trade at 40x according to west coast boutique who follow the company. Short at 50 5/16. Also short XLNX as they may have difficulty making their number. Stock is down but I don't get the impression any of my ex-insitutional sales buddies could get a buyer in any of these tech names unless the PM (Porftolio Manager) was already long...not too many PM's adding any new names to their blotters going into year end unless 1)the numbers(eps) are very compelling (+35-70%); 2) are institutionally underowned...who wants to clean up Pilgrim Baxter's or Nicholas Applegate's stock unless on a Pukeshot. Even then it's a tough sell to PM's unless you've made them a lot of money and they owe you a chit.

Bon Chance.
Jim
