Shell halts US GTL project – questions for Sasol

RD Shell Plc announced it has cancelled plans to build a 140k bbl/day GTL plant
in Louisiana. Citing development costs and uncertainty over oil and gas price
long term and capital discipline were key issues that concerned RD Shell despite
the allowance for tax incentives and a U$112mn grant from Louisiana and an
acknowledgement of substantial natural gas feedstock. This announcement by
Shell confirms our long-held concerns regarding Sasol’s proposed U$11 – 14bn
US GTL plant, also in Louisiana
