Eric Hoffer was a great one! His mentor was Montaign. Let me tell you a story about Eric Hoffer. He was a sort of mentor to me when very young. I read the True Believer. But when the Hippie movement came around he opposed it at first and then said something so remarkable I have never seen it since. He said: "the kids are right an I am wrong." And he stopped publishing in all of his newspapers. That is on a par with Socrates deciding to take death to uphold the social contract. He took his investigation into philosophy seriously.
