Good point, when your comparing the US to many of these countries, your comparing a much larger and more diverse country to in many cases a country with less people than our largest cities.

Compare the US to some country or group of countries that are also very large.

China, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Russia, the eight most populous countries other than the US, are also very unequal.

OK but aren't those all less developed countries? But no rich nation is near the US in population. However the EU (with more people and a larger economy in total than the US) has a similar level of inequality to the US.

And someone at the 10th percentile in the US (reasonably described as poor in relative terms) has more purchasing power than their equivalent in any of those other places, including the EU.
