The short squeeze in 1999 had only 500K
in 2001 there were 12,100,000 shares, so nearly half the shares outstanding today. Further to ignore the fact that the end of 1999/beginning of 2000 was the apex of the mania, is a bit disingenuous.

In the 2 months that it took REFR to triple in price, approximately 7.5M shares traded. That 500k short covering was absorbed pretty easily.

In the 1 month that it took REFR 62% there was 3.1M shares traded. In that same time period, short interest went from 1.29M to 1.78M. So the short interest went up significantly into the high on Nov 21. This means that this recent rally was not a short squeeze. In fact, my bet is that the shorts jumped in on Nov 22nd when they saw the volume drying up and the price momentum coming to a stop.

If you look at the numbers, the only conclusion that you can come to is that shorts have not only not caused any of the major advances in the stock, they also don't cause the weakness in the stock. Instead the shorts pretty much guarantee that there is a floor on the stock between 2.75 and 3.25.

Any weakness you see in the stock price is because of weak hands. Most likely the investors that got options and warrants and the executives at REFR.
