Ever heard of the Fischer–Tropsch process? Coal to liquid? SASOL? Economic at today's crude prices. Hundreds of years of coal reserves, world wide.

Yes, tick, tick, tick, alright. Carbon based fuels will be ticking along for a lot longer than you and Ratty would like to believe. But don't worry, I'm sure that the world will burn up due to global warming, long before fossil fuel usage stops.. :-)
