OT: This one's for you Bob because we know how much you love high speed rail.

High Speed Trains are Killing the European Railway Network

FWIW, I never take a the high speed train when I travel to NYC.
A coach seat on some Northeast Regionals costs $49 and the trip takes 3 hours. *
The much touted high speed Acela costs $172 Business Class and $283 First Class (no coach seats on Acela)
and gets you there in 2 hours 25 minutes so you pay at least $123 more to save 35 minutes. **
My time isn't that valuable! (or maybe I'm just cheap)

BTW, who pays $111 more than Business Class to travel First Class on a 2 hour train trip? The only major difference I see is in First Class an attendant serves you at-seat meals and drinks so you don't have get up and walk to the club car to get your own food and drinks and possible risk coming in contact with a commoner.

* $49 if you buy your ticket 14 days in advance, $75 if you don't. $63.75 with senior discount. Business Class
$112, $100.75 with senior discount.

** Some of the Acela Express trains run $222 Business Class and $333 First Class. I can fly to California
for that kind of money.
All fares quoted are one way, for round trip just double it.
