Americans: This is a ‘do-nothing’ Congress

A new poll has shown that two-thirds of Americans believe the current US Congress has been a "do-nothing" Congress which has failed to address the country’s problems.

A CNN/ORC International poll released on Thursday showed that nearly 67 percent of the American people say the current Congress is the worst they have seen in their lifetime.

"That sentiment exists among all demographic and political subgroups. Men, women, rich, poor, young, old - all think this year's Congress has been the worst they can remember," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

"Older Americans - who have lived through more congresses - hold more negative views of the 113th Congress than younger Americans. Republicans, Democrats and independents also agree that this has been the worst session of Congress in their lifetimes," Holland added.

The findings of the survey, which was conducted between December 16 and 19, also revealed that 73 percent of Americans believe lawmakers in the current session of Congress have so far done nothing to address their problems.

Several other surveys have also shown that Americans are fed up with the current Congress.

A HuffPost/YouGov poll released in October showed that only 25 percent of Americans thought their own member of Congress should be reelected.

An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, also released in October, showed that 60 percent of the American people wanted an all-inclusive congressional overhaul.

In 2013, US Congress set an all-time record not only for most unpopular but also for most unproductive as both the House and Senate repeatedly passed bills that the other chamber ignored and only 65 bills made their way to the White House.
