It doesn't matter what SS was designed for. It matters what our society needs to be a just and healthy society today.
It does matter because of the way benefits are structured. Like I said, the more you put into SS, the more you get out of it. In that context, the FICA cap makes sense, because otherwise SS would be a savings tool for the rich.

Now if you want to disconnect benefits from contributions, be my guest. Only problem is that you would dismantle one of the favorite myths of the left, which is that retirees should be entitled to everything they paid into the system.

And that's when you finally convert SS from a forced savings program into a gigantic welfare program, which sounds like what you intend to do all along.
And yes, I clearly care more than you.
You care only as much as it takes to vote other people's money toward your socialist beliefs. Doesn't matter if you make six figures and are willing to pay, as long as you can force those making seven figures and more to pay more.
