I think 10's of millions of Americans want to sign up for Obamacare. Everyone with a pre-existing condition who doesn't have decent employer provided insurance, which is bound to be 10's of millions of Americans. A lot of employer provided insurance today is really fake, crummy policies who's deficiencies aren't visible until you need them. They just let an employer claim they offer insurance, and that's their purpose.
If not for the problems with the website, Obamacare would already have 10's of millions signed up NOW.
Once that happens, Republicans will not be trying to prevent Obamacare, they'll be trying to separate 10's of millions of Americans from insurance they desperately need that they were unable to get before Obama. These people, me included, will put up a hell of a fight.
Take my main reason for wanting it. I am currently naked, without insurance ( my employer's insurance is truly crap ). I pay for my insulin out of pocket, buying it from Canada, the cheapest supplier I trust, a month's supply at a time. It costs me just under $700 a month. I often have to borrow the money, or develop complications, face blindness, amputations or death. Obamacare is a HUGE deal for me. ( I briefly had a coke habit that large, but that was FUN! )
The Obamacare plan I've selected has a $10 co-pay on prescriptions. The monthly premiums without the government subsidy I qualify for is right around $400. So, even without the subsidy, I could reduce my cost by $290 a month. With the subsidy, a little over $200, my cost for insulin a month would be $188 + $10 = $200 a month, down from $700 a month.
This doesn't even get into the other benefits, like getting that colonoscopy my doctors have been urging me to get for a decade. |
