That is such a huge myth. It is the primary myth the plutocrats and capitalists use so the don't have to pay as much money to workers. Walmart could pay more and still make a fine profit. Do you really think Walmart is going to pay more than they have to out of the goodness of their heart?

And so we end up subsidizing Walmart employees as they make so little they can qualify for food stamps. ON the meantime the Walmart family has more money than the bottom 42% of the population.

When we had 35% unions and a strong middle class we also had strong economies and good profits. Technology allows employers to pay more. They just don't want to and cry poor and then naïve folks like you sell their lies.

Don't you know that employers will always say they can't afford to pay more and make up other excuses why they can't afford to pay more?

Look at Apple's profits and you want to tell me they HAD to use sweat shops to build their stuff?

In Alaska when we built the pipeline the Republican governor made a rule that all jobs had to be union or pay prevailing union wages. The oil companies didn't care and paid it willingly.

The minimum wage hurts many poor people (by keeping them from getting jobs, and by raising prices), unless its so low that it can't really help almost anyone either (because its below the market clearing wage for unskilled labor and so even without it almost everyone would get that much money or more).
