But I think most of what we are debating revolves around simply caring about people. Some people do and some people don't. History is very clear about that.

Walmart could afford to pay much more. You don't pay much attention do you? Sure they could afford to pay more, but they don't have any incentive to do so. Force them to pay more and they have an incentive to hire less. Also many other companies that hire entry level workers don't have much ability to pay a lot more.
