IMHO, video doesn't add that much to internet phones other than maybe seeing a chart or grandma. Video certainly doesn't compensate for poor audio.
At ceratin times you'll get a great connection anf other times you can't make out what the other party is saying. All has to do with internet traffic. Interestingly I can talk to Australia better than 50 miles away.
Right now it's kind of self defeating. The more people that use the net the worse voice transmission you get.
And the net is getting more and more crowded.
Modem speed has a lot to do with it too...you'll definitely get better results at 56k than 28.8. A dedicated T-1 line will help. I can get that for .05/minute.
A cable modem might help if it's bidirectional cable...but you know what happens when a bunch of users share bandwidth on the cable.
Speed goes way down.
