"All the Bubba states. With the exception of Kentucky, all of them are making it worse by turning down Obamacare Medicaid expansion."
There was a fight here in Utah about that, but progressive forces ( including many Republicans ) lost to the Obama-hating conservatives, but it was a fairly close thing. Many Republicans realized it was just willfully stupid, cutting off the nose to spite the face. I can't remember the exact figures, but I think for the first three years, the cost was totally Federally paid, and wouldn't have cost the state a dime, while covering hundreds of thousands of poor Utahans. After that, the Feds pick up 90% of the cost.
Not doing it doesn't save a dime, at the state or Federal level, it just costs the poor uninsured of those states medical care. The money still flows to the Feds. In the dumbass, refusenik states, it just doesn't get returned to THEM, their medical establishment or their poor uninsured. |
