Reference funding SSI in the future I want to read up on Warren's proposal and see what she proposes there (what she says about funding) and think about the politics of raising the cap. Did you mean all the way (unlimited) when you said that--or since it's Krugman's idea maybe I should go the source on it.

I'm trying to focus as much on policy and as little on politics in our discussions as possible. On policy grounds, I have yet to see a decent argument for keeping any cap. On political grounds, with a bit of shift in the political moons it might be possible to double the level of the present cap.

Looks as if the 2014 cap is $117k. Moving that cap up solves the long term financing problems for many decades to come. Assuming we all agree that US bonds are US bonds, regardless of who holds them. Or, better still, the Clinton/Gore lockbox metaphor, bentway mentions.
