REITS. yes, 2013 was a flat year for reits and pref stocks. this chart shows NYSE, pref stock index and reit index. however, does not show dividends. With dividends, call 2013 flat for reits / pref. I am up a little this year.

Click on the 5 year time frame and call 2013 was a catch up year for NYSE. (Still, dividends are not in the charts, so reits have been outstanding.) No complaints here. I sold pref stocks and bought more reits lately. Many reits have large insider buying, dividends are safe, and development projects are finishing up. Apartment are my latest focus. AEC, MAA, CPT own newer buildings and are worth a bet.
