Dow Jones Newswires

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) unveiled the Am29SL800, a flash memory device that can read, program and erase at 1.8 Volts.

In a press release Wednesday, the company said its 1.8-volt-only line will enable customers to extend standby and talk time on their cellular phones and other portable products.

Advanced Micro said the Am29SL800 comes in industrial temperature range and commercial temperature range and is available in 10,000 piece quantities for $8.70 and $8.35, respectively.

In a seperate release, Advanced Micro said it will offer its flash memory devices in the Fine-pitch Ball Grid Array, or FBGA, package.

The company said the FBGA is a small form-factor package that does not experience die shrinks.

Advanced Micro said the FBGA enables portable system designers to reduce the size of a product and to integrate more features.

The company said its FBGA packaged products will be available in the first quarter of 1998.

Advanced Micro supplies integrated circuits for personal and networke computers and communications markets.
