Yeah, I have doubts about whether many people "appreciate" an increase in the minimum wage such they actually work harder.

As a teenager who worked in my dad's fast food joints and eventually ran a couple of them while in college, I can tell you that regardless of whether kids are making MW or more, many think nothing of just not showing up if they can find a party on Saturday night.

Those who are fundamentally reliable are going to be there regardless of the money. These are people who have a work ethic that tells them, "Those guys are counting on me to be there." These are people who have almost always gone on to have meaningful careers, whether or not they were able to pursue further education.
