Once started, life seems so unrelenting and unstoppable! Yes species do die and go extinct--but that is what is so impressive about the scheme! The universe cares nothing for ego! Success is its own reward and failure speaks for itself, too. As humans, we begin life in a mad swim to an egg. And I doubt any sperm is stepping aside to say, "after you!"

How strange though, that as we have become sentient and intelligent...cooperation has become our strongest and most critical attribute for survival. At least, it seems that way to me. Look at source code and gaming and the madness of new technology. Impossible without working together--much as bees work together. It is impossible for us to know how much "individualism" exists in the hive. But we might be surprised! Intelligent humans certainly share and cooperate. But one only needs to observe the rancor involved in the race for fame in new scientific accomplishments (Give ME that Nobe!) to admit that we still strive to be more successful and superior. Advertisers know what motivates us... :-)

So Evolution has gone from unconscious superiority to conscious superiority. (I here use the word to reflect survival skills--not moral eminence).

Just some rambling free association. I read your posts and I thought that a thread about Evolution might be a neat idea.
