The last part of your paragraph above does indeed happen. Amdahl has a subsidiary named DMR, which specializes in year 2K consulting, and other computer consulting. Quite often, when they get a large contract for legacy system Y2K fixing, we get orders for one or two or more mainframes. Same thing happen for Sun?
