Correction from my earlier statement - It should be "...the roman's didn't have an income tax"

They didn't have nuclear aircraft carriers and missile subs to support.

They also didn't have 300+ million people each of whom was in many ways (but not in land) richer than the aristocracy of Rome. They did have a large and expensive military that took up a larger percentage of their national government spending. The US federal government mainly spends money on transfers, the Romans mainly on the army.

Never said they shouldn't, either.


And since he doesn't address the issue, there is nothing to support the idea that high taxes and high levels of government transfer programs are "christ-like" or that opposing them is "unchristian"

Taxes help free the greedy from that burden.

Taxes are an expression of greed. Wanting (and then taking) what someone else has.
