Dividends are good. If they gave it to the shareholders, it wouldn't be dead money. If they put solar panels on their buildings to reduce their electricity bills, it wouldn't be dead money. If they give every employee a $1000 Holiday bonus every year, it wouldn't be dead money.
About the best that can be said for it is that all that dead money is why we aren't seeing the oft-predicted inflation.
