You are not grasping the fact an individual's welfare rises or falls with the welfare of the society they live in.

Even if there was a direct 1/1 correlation (and there is no direct or precise correlation). That would be largely irrelevant.

1 - Government does not equal society.

2 - Increasing government spending (except from a low base, and only if the new spending is well targeted) does not equal improving society, or making it richer. (In fact at least by current levels it means harming society).

3 - Its still keeping your own money. If paying more of it in taxes would help society (and it doesn't), trying to keep it would have far less connection to the idea of greed then trying to take it.
