Chile's copper production up 6.7% in Jan-Nov

Copper production in Chile increased 6.7% to 5.25Mt in the first 11 months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, according to new figures from state copper commission Cochilco.
On a monthly comparison, copper output in November rose 6.5% to 510,000t over 479,000t reported in November 2012.
Collahuasi, the JV between Anglo American (LSE: AAL) and Glencore Xstrata (LSE: GLEN), reported the biggest increase in copper production for the January-November period, up 55.6% to 392,500t.
Next was Freeport McMoRan's (NYSE: FCX) 80%-controlled Candelaria, which saw production increase by 37.1% to 150,400t in the January-November period.
The country's single largest producer, Escondida, controlled by BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP), saw its output rise by 11.5% to 1.09Mt in the first 11 months of the year.
For its part, state copper giant Codelco reported an increase of 3.3% in copper production across all of its operations to 1.63Mt compared to 1.57Mt in January-November 2012.
The miner's El Teniente division saw the biggest percentage increase, up 9.7% to 412,200t, while the Chuquicamata-Radomiro Tomic-Ministro Hales complex reported a drop in output of 2.8% to 676,800t in January-November, according to the Cochilco report. |
