Didn't you take any history courses or political science courses at the U of Oregon? In a democracy they can change the constitution and do. And it is usually for the better.

Do you want to hang on to slavery that Our founding fathers allowed? Was that working pretty well? Jefferson and Washington had slaves. Lots of them. How about not letting women vote or all the other restrictions on women. Segregation.

Forming well working societies is very complicated stuff. Even running a small city is complicated. Everyone has a different idea of what they want. I live in a town of 30,000 and they fight over everything. Planning directors are flayed alive by all the contentiousness.

And few people, right or left are rational. Everyone wants their ideas implemented and few ever think about the other person. As I mention a lot, take a good look at history.

When Rome fell about 400 AD, by raiding Germanic tribes, Europe was without a strong central government and The Dark Ages began. It was as horrible time. No one was safe and illiteracy reigned. The strongest tribes enslaved and killed the weaker ones and few traveled as it was too dangerous.

Today the most civilized and happiest people on earth are the western democracies that mostly have large strong governments with universal health care and near free education and strong social safety nets.

Denmark, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada. In all of history people never lived as well as they do in those countries and they all have large governments and high taxes!
