I think the real story is that there was obviously a culture around Christie where these aides felt the freedom to take this action without consulting him. They must have felt that it went without saying that Christie would approve of the action. Which, I'm sure he did, until the story broke. After that, it's time to cut loose the Haldeman's and Erlichmans. To let Scooter Libby take the fall..
