No reason to laugh that's a factual point. Recent tabulations of "medical bankruptcies" either included any bankruptcy with any medical debt listed (even a dollar), or counted any with more than a relatively modest amount (I think it was $5k). If there where $50k in credit card bills, and underwater mortgage for $300k that was 6 months in arrears, two car notes, and other debt besides, a modest amount of debt from medical bills would get it labeled as a medical bankruptcy.
