BTW, the more I see of it, I think the one "winning" strategy in Iraq would have been to create Kurdistan. I'd have taken some out of Iran and Turkey's hide to have done so as well. It certainly would be for Turkey's long term interest despite what they might think of the matter, and it likely would produce another moderate and successful country in the M.E. something which is sorely lacking. It could then stand out as an excellent example to its neighbors of what could be accomplished sans extremism.
