An air conditioner is a dehumidifier. I'm sure you Floridians make ample use of those.

Up here in the Winter, the cold air humidity varies just like the warm air humidity in Summer. Problem is, when you take that sub freezing air (on the cold days; many winter days are pretty mild) and heat it up, the relative humidity can drop into the teens indoors, even though it might be 80% outside. That has many problems associated with it. One's skin will get dry and flaky, and as the condition persists for several days itchy too. The sinuses will dry out causing headaches, and the mucous membranes can crack and bleed, leaving an opening for infection. The calluses around the edges of the heel of the foot can crack, and believe me that hurts!

It can also cause wooden furniture to warp and/or crack as well.

You probably already know all this, being the well travelled hombre that you are, but what the heck.
