I look to Dr. Roy Spencer's for the overall temp of the planet. His graphs are derived from satellite data. Satellite data is a science in of itself and produces very useful data.

There is surface data. The world-wide cooperation that goes into surface and upper air data is amazing, especially the process of organizing the data, running quality checks, and using it to run weather models. Anthony Watt's wrote up a project on questioning the integrity of surface data. I thought it was a good read.

Yes, urban heat island effect is real, as Jorj mentioned in Message 29327428. The increased ozone levels bother me. Kids who grow up exposed to higher concentrations of ozone are more likely to develop asthma. However, and this is my opinion and I don't know it all, we don't come close to having an impact on the world wide distribution of heat and angular momentum (i.e., emphasizing the weather patterns related to the jet streams).
