I dare say, Sam, if you had 4 kids to put through college and you found out it was going to cost you $1800 more per year per child simply because you were middle class you might feel differently about this. Why can't the poorer kids go out and borrow the same amount of money? The main point though is that at a public university this "cost shifting" is not a decision to be made by the university administration. Why are you opposed to having the cost shifting policy debated in the light of day? Isn't that what should happen?
