all rivers end up in the ocean... but you make a valid point.. lake formation will certainly mitigate the melt result.. Think Great lakes, Lake Winnipeg, Great Slave lake, Little slave lake.. etc etc... I think much is hyperbole.. and hence scams possible... :O)
