And the weight of the glaciers compressed the continents they formed on. As the glaciers melt, the continents rebound upwards. In some places the rebound is thought to be far greater than any sea level rise caused by glacier melt.

Ocean shorelines change rapidly even in human life terms. Lots of beaches I knew as a young'un have changed tremendously in a few decades. Note the top of Mt. Everest was once under a sea. With that kind of sea level change, who cares about a few inches or feet.

Anyone building on a shoreline is setting themselves up to lose everything they built in a singular event. You pay your money, you take your chances. Life is a big gamble :-)
