CBR Input................

Tanker cars should be built using filament wound carbon fiber. Not only would this solution decrease the fuel to weight ratios of the trains, the carbon fiber matrix winding would be significantly more resilient than any comparable materials that are rigid, like steel. Not many remember but the only piece of the Skylab that survived reentry into earths atmosphere was carbon fiber pressure vessels would at a plant in Lincoln Nebraska, that was owned by Brunswick corp at that time. Now, that plant is providing pressure vessels from composites, for NG storage, the plant is owned and operated by Hexagon composites traded in Denmark. Rail cars would be huge beneficiaries of a transition to this same type of technology.
