They had a beauty of language back then that they wrote themselves! Not like today's politicians.

I am reminded of Addison and Steele and "The Spectator"--essays which you can find online. I remember reading it when I was young and thinking it was some of the most marvellous language (as well as ideas) that I had encountered.
