Dear New Feature Discussion Participants,

The polling system has been modified.

To participate in SI Member polls, one must now have a Member level account on SI.

This change is not retroactive; meaning if you got in under the gun, your vote stands.

6 "I think this is a great idea" votes were cast by Pledges.
1 "I think this is a great idea" vote was cast in the poll below through the use of an exploit described below.
5 "I think this is a bad idea" votes were cast by Pledges.

If the new rules were in effect at the time the poll below was created, there would have been a net loss of two votes in "I think this is a great idea" column.

The primary impetus for this change was the observation that a vote in our member poll was done so through the use of an exploit - an individual registered an account, never activated that account, but exploited a flaw in the voting system that allowed a non-activated account to participate in polling.

We'll only cross the bridge about what to do if this affects the outcome of our current Member poll below if we have to - as it stands now, it seems plausible the margin will be wide enough that it will not make a difference in the final outcome.

As noted, going forward, voting in SI Member polls will be reserved for SIers with Member level (level 40 and above) status. Also note that the Poll closing date is now also conveniently displayed after your vote has been cast.

Regards,

@Dima

How would you feel about a site wide conciliation day? All Member bans on all boards would be automatically lifted. Moderators could reimpose bans at their discretion, but are encouraged to wait for cause.
