More than 100 000 families in the southern Philippines were evacuated on Monday amid rising floodwaters following days of continuous rain from the latest cyclone in the region.

The floods came just two months after the widespread destruction on the island nation caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

The state disaster agency reported on Monday that more than 700 000 people have been displaced and 40 have been killed by floods and landslides in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
