I'm not stuck in the box.

It's you who is stuck in the box!

Check lists are used almost exclusively for takeoffs and landings when mistakes in the configuration of the aircraft just cannot be tolerated. (and during emergencies while in flight when there are problems with the aircraft)

When I'm cruising around at 30,000 feet I've got lots of time to make decisions but while taking off or landing things had better be configured correctly or myself and my passengers could be exposed to catastrophic situations with no time to correct them.

It's probably good that you don't pilot an aircraft because you don't seem to understand what pilots actually do.

You are thinking in two dimensions rather than the three I have to.
