You miss the point. "Smart" glass is now ubiquitous. Perhaps a better analogy would be that first came the tire, then came a tread design on the tire. I'm sure the very first company that put a tread on a tire did quite well. I think it goes without saying that the vast majority of people when they buy tires with a tread design, most of which are completely different, are more concerned about price, durability, warranty, etc. than the unique design itself. Perhaps if I had a new tire company I might try the tread design approach, but not one created 15 years ago on the assumption if it were that good there wouldn't be sooo many other competitors.
